Description
I made this model a little while ago now but it never got around to putting into a setting. I have taken a short break from my current project to have a go at putting this guy into an image that I have had in my mind for some time now.He is an underground miner that works hard for a greedy master and has never before seen the world above ground. On a trip to get drinking water he sees something new and is captured by it's beauty. His thirst for the beauty of the world above has taken over his thoughts. Soon he will start planning his escape from his hard and dirty life below ground and finally break free from his master.

Now I see several elements that, technically, have nothing in common.
Allthough i think you're able to do a good character design, and since practice makes perfect, I reccon you could get better technically. But that would involve learning about other requirements aswell, such as colorfunction, backgrounds, structural knowledge, etcetera. Maybe it would be good to grab a classic painting handbook and use it for your digital work. After all, the computer is just an instrument. I know i sound negative, but I mean it in a constructive way. If you wouldn't have the potential, I wouldn't bother to comment. (OMG, I DO sound arrogant

Thats a great story. The objects you have are just brilliant. Great concept and lovely composition. I see you got some texturing going on, very cool. Awsome style.
Il comment lighting and smaller affects. Much like ARTOONATOR said you need to blend, match light direction so the dragon looks liek its suppose to be where it is. etc. Obviously you did a good job, i would take your work to another level and really go at it hard with lighting, texturing etc. I think you can really do it. I would love to see some crazy detailed work from you. Please gary try next time !
Over all i think this peice is really good. I dragon is cool once again. Great charecter!

(footsteps) thud THud THUD.........OK then right...lighting yes...classic painting Handbook...check....colorfunction...right...backgrounds...ok... structural knowledge...right.... etcetera...hummmm... not sure what that means but i'll look it up.
Seriously though cheers for the crits Guys I need to be shocked out of my little corner sometimes you know how that goes i'm sure... when you spend days in isolation working like a person posessed...you sometimes cop a that's my story and i'm sticking to it kinda attitude... And some details will try to be swept under the rug so to speak.... you know the old Just can't be assed going back and fixing it thing... heh
Well cheers again guys and Artoonator maybe with a bit of luck you might find room in your heart for 3d work one day....

the rose doesnt fit the lighting or scene at all, i get that it was supposed to be different, but there's a huge leap in contrast of color, texture and technique to be believable....
the guy has a generic "rock" texture applied to him....doesnt look like skin nor fur, he looks rock solid....not in muscle either - no animal on earth has that texture to their skin.
the lighting.... light is coming from above on your character and yet the lighting in the background is coming from below! the light on the rose is hitting it dead on from behind the viewer too, 3 different lights with no shadows on the floor or walls and that arent interacting with each other
the depth of space is a huge problem as well.... he isn't sitting on anything. there is no inbetweens from where the rose, the character and the background are in the space - it isnt believable.
as a scene....this needs a ton of work. if you wanted to showcase your character alone, you didnt have to include a scene, by all means. feel free to pm if you want to chat and pls take everything as i said as a means to improve your skill =)

I think you're doing a good job here technically, but all the objects together don't seems to go together.
I like the character very much, also the story but work on backgrounds and atmosphere.
Keep it up Gary!+7

Acida, Thank you and yeah I’ve had a few comments on the rose...I do know what you mean and I have had some different ideas for the scene also…. so maybe someday this will bloom.
Rafsan, Cheers for your comments and Thank you…and yes I will spend more time practicing... In-between one or the other ha ha. Good luck
